Shoppers can use their SNAP/EBT benefits at our farmers’ markets to get 50% off fruits, vegetables, poi, and more.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal program that provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. SNAP users can spend their funds at certain vendors at Mākeke Waiʻanae and Mākeke ʻIki.

Our Unlimited SNAP Double Bucks Program doubles the value of shoppers' SNAP benefits. The program allows SNAP users to purchase eligible fruits, vegetables, poi, proteins, and honey at 50% off.

In 2008, we became the first farmers’ market on Oʻahu to accept SNAP/EBT, and in 2012, we were the first farmers’ market in Hawaiʻi to implement a SNAP Doubling Program. Today, we’re proud to have the largest SNAP Doubling Program in the state.

How to use SNAP/EBT at our mākeke

Visit the Mākeke Information Booth and tell our Mākeke staff how many EBT dollars you want to convert to $1 tokens to spend on eligible SNAP/EBT items.
Look for vendors with a “SNAP/EBT Accepted” sign.
Use your tokens to buy fruits, vegetables, poi, honey, proteins, fish, snacks, baked goods, cold drinks, plants, and prepared/packaged foods.

How to use SNAP Double Bucks at a farmers market

Visit the Mākeke Information Booth and tell our Mākeke staff how many EBT dollars you want to exchange to $1 tokens.
Purchases towards honey, fish, and poi will require a Double Bucks coupon to spend with your token. This coupon is provided for free and does not come out of your SNAP/EBT card.
*Because some items are ineligible for Double Bucks, you must use both your EBT token and Double Bucks coupon when purchasing honey, fish and poi.
Purchases towards local fruits, vegetables, and meat will automatically double the value of your token, giving you a half-off discount on your purchase towards these items. A Double Bucks coupon is not needed for these types of purchases.
Look for vendors with a “SNAP/EBT Accepted” sign to use your SNAP tokens and Double Bucks coupons.

People can purchase locally grown, fresh and frozen fruits, vegetables, poi, honey, meat, fish, snacks, baked goods, tea, food/herb plants, and prepared/packaged foods. Shoppers cannot use SNAP/EBT to purchase non-food items and hot foods.
