Mākeke’s mission is to cultivate a community that is healthy in mind, body, and spirit by providing vibrant gathering places for the community, local food producers, and Hawaiian cultural practitioners. Our two farmers’ markets provide a place to connect, share, learn, teach, entertain, and express values that lead to healthy and affordable habits.

As a food justice farmers market, we aim to improve the health and diets of our community by increasing accessibility to affordable, healthy, and local produce for all. We make sure all produce sold at our mākeke is grown locally in Hawaiʻi (with the exception of produce that cannot grow in the state). We also set the standard that our food vendors use at least 50% local produce and ingredients on their menus or that 50% of their menu is considered healthy (low fat, whole grain, low sugar, etc.).
