The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a federally funded program which provides Hawaiʻi residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. Participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk.
WIC participants can use their eWIC card to purchase eligible fruits, vegetables, and poi for 50% off at our farmers market locations.
How to use WIC at our mākeke
Look for vendors with a “WIC accepted” sign.
Select eligible fruits, vegetables, and poi.
Bring your items to the vendor to get a WIC transaction slip. The vendor will calculate your total purchase.
Bring your WIC transaction slip to the Mākeke Information Booth. Our staff will deduct half of your total purchase. For example, if you purchased $10 of fruits, staff will deduct $5 from your WIC balance.
Use your eWIC card to pay for your items at the Info Booth and receive a market-issued receipt.
Return to the vendors with your market-issued receipt to collect your items.

People can purchase locally grown, fresh, frozen or cut fruits and vegetables. Shoppers can also purchase poi. Shoppers cannot use WIC to purchase non-food items and fruits with added ingredients (li hing mui, sugar, etc.)
