Mana Ku Produce Prescription Program

Do you have a child who is 5-12 years old? You may qualify to receive $100 monthly vouchers to purchase fruits, vegetables, and poi at our farmers’ markets. 

Our Mana Ku Produce Prescription Program provides parents with a $100 monthly mākeke voucher for 12 months. Participants can use the voucher to purchase fruits, vegetables, and poi at our two farmers market locations. Throughout the 12 months, participants complete health assessments and surveys and attend community workshops. Patients data is also tracked to see how diet affects overall health outcomes.

Eligibility requirements

  1. You must be a parent/legal guardian with a child who is 5-12 years old. 

  2. You and your child must have a primary care provider at Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center (WCCHC).  

  3. You must have a nutrition-related chronic disease, such as diabetes or high-blood pressure. 

  4. You must have Medicaid insurance or receive SNAP/EBT.  

  5. You must live on the Leeward Coast of Oʻahu in one of the following zip codes: 96792, 96797, 96707, 96706.  

What to expect during the program:

  1. Once we verify your eligibility, our team will contact you to explain program requirements, register you into our patient dashboard, and complete a survey.  

  2. We will collect you and your child’s weight and blood pressure. There are a few ways to do this: 

    • If your and your child’s vitals have been updated in WCCHC’s patient chart within the last month, you do not need to complete a new health assessment. 

    • We can complete a health assessment at our office or farmers’ market booth. 

    • You can complete a health assessment at home if you have access to a scale and blood pressure machine. 

During your appointment, you will receive your Mana Ku Produce Prescription Card. We will load $100 into your card for the first month. Use this card at one of our farmers’ markets to purchase fruits, vegetables, and poi.

  • Participants can purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and poi from our two farmers market locations.

  • Bring your Mana Ku Produce Prescription Card to one of our farmers’ markets and use it to buy eligible fruits, vegetables and poi. Simply give your card to the vendor when you’re ready to make a purchase. If you have any questions while at the market, visit our team under the market info tent.

  • Funds are reloaded on the 5th and 15th of each month.

  • Funds expire at the end of each month. They do not carry over into the next month.

  • No, a parent and child who have already participated in the program may not re-enroll. However, a different parent and child from the same household may participate if they meet eligibility criteria.

  • Yes, space is limited. The program will close once all spots are filled. Those hoping to join the program should contact their WCCHC primary care provider.

Other programs

  • Our West Oʻahu Produce Prescription Program provides eligible individuals with a $150 monthly voucher to purchase fresh produce and poi at our farmers market. 

  • Our Food Subscription Program provides eligible households who have been denied SNAP/EBT with a $250 monthly voucher to purchase fresh produce, poi, honey, and proteins at our farmers market.
